Your brake pads are a key factor of your braking system and they are a part that you should monitor on a regular basis. Brake pads compress to create friction on your brake rotors which causes your car to stop.Which means hard work for your brake pads every time you stop..
The amount of pressure they use to stop a moving vehicle is massive and gives off a lot of heat which causes wear on the brake pads.
Worn brake pads means less effective braking which is hazardous to you and others on the road. Which is why regular assessments of the condition of your brake pads is crucial.

How do I know if my brake pads need replacing?
Squealing brakes can be an indicator that your brake pads are worn out; many pads have a small metal piece implanted in them which will scratch on the disc when your brake pads are getting thin, causing that high pitch noise. However, it's not advised to wait until you hear noises to get your pads inspected, we advise having your brakes inspected at every service.
It is important to remember that brake noises are not only caused by normal wear and any unusual noises anywhere in your car should always be investigated by a qualified professional mechanic.
At Marjac Automotive we offer a free 65 Point Safety Check with every car service. As part of our Safety Check we inspect the brake pads for wear and inform you if they want replacing. We can also recommend the right pad for your local conditions and driving style.
How regularly should my brake pads be replaced?
Brake Pads can live for anywhere between 15,000 to 70,000 km's. This can vary due to a number of influences such as; driving conditions, driving style, if you are carrying heavy loads or towing. If your brake pads are wearing out early your mechanic might advise using a heat resistant or heavier duty brake pad more suited to your vehicle.
